Critical Thinking Skill 1 is Using Probability and Value.

Rules for Probability and Value:

  • How much we think something is going to happen is called probability.
  • How important we think something will be if it happens is called value.
  • If an idea has high probability and high value it is strong.
  • If an idea has low probability and low value. It is weak.
  • Some ideas have high probability but low value. Some ideas have low probability but high value. You are the best person to decide if an idea is weak or strong.

How to use Probability and Value

  1. First, explain how you know your idea will happen.
  2. Next give evidence that your idea will happens.
  3. Then, explain that when your idea happens it will have a big effect.
  4. Then give evidence that when your idea happens it will have a big effect.

How to attack Probability and Value

  • Explain why your friend’s idea will not happen.
  • Give evidence that your friend’s idea will not happen.
  • Explain why your friend’s idea will not have a big effect.
  • Give evidence that your friend’s idea will not have a big effect.
